Not uncommonly after cataract surgery the membrane that lies behind the intra-ocular lens implant thickens up and causes the vision in that eye to deteriorate. This can lead to a gradual decrease in vision or problems with glare and dazzle (similar symptoms to the original cataract). This thickening or opacification can occur anytime after cataract surgery; form a few months too many years later. We have a state of the art YAG laser at BMI Woodlands which can quickly restore the vision back to what it was before this clouding occurred. The treatment is performed in the outpatients department, it only requires drops to numb the eye, it is completely painless and only takes a few minutes. It is very rare that the treatment needs to be repeated.
